In trying to make sense of this

A poem I read this morning during my devotional spoke to me.

Does Sorrow lay his hand upon your shoulder,
And walk with you in silence on life's way,
While Joy, your bright companion once, grown colder,
Becomes to you more distant day by day?
Run not from the companionship of Sorrow,
He is the messenger of God to thee;
And you will thank Him in His great tomorrow--
For what you do not know now, you then will see;
He is God's angel, clothed in veils of night,
With whom "we walk by faith" and "not by sight."

I'm so overwhelmed by all of your love! Thank you to my sweet friend for allowing me to spend yesterday with my sister. I wish there was someway I could tell you how much that meant to me. As Mark and the kids walked into church yesterday, "Everlasting God" was the opening song. The special music was Mercy Me's "Jesus Bring The Rain."

I don't really have to say much more do I?

Love to all.
Kim

Dear Kim,
WE know your bin law Daniel and he has asked us to pray for you and Karen. As a mother my heart breaks to think of the pain you must be in some days. But as a believer I know God has his hand in your life and in Karen's. My prayer is for a total healing. We are praying for you and will email our church to pray for you.

Kim,
I am continuing to pray daily for you and your family. I think you are such an amazing person, and have touched so many lives with your faith, strength, & courage. You inspire me to be a better Christian, Mom, and wife - I have learned that we can all see God's hand in our lives, regardless of the circumstances, if we just look, take our eyes off ourselves and fix them on Him! Let me know what I can do to help you and Mark (errands, food, school, etc.) and I will keep on praying!
I love you - Allison M.

Kim-

I returned home about an hour ago from the mile prayer for you and your family. How awesome to see all those people out praying just for you! You are so loved and you have brought people together in faith and prayer. You have done God's work and I believe He will say to you "Well done, my good and faithful servant." I will always think of you as a flower no matter whether you get the miracle I am praying for or not. You are a flower because you are so radiant and so fragrant - a fragrance of God's love. And, you know, a flower's fragrance does not stop after it is no longer living. A pressed flower still has a wonderful scent. And, you have left such a mark on this community through the hands of God using you that your own fragrance will continue on and on and on and on. What a beautiful flower you are! Ephesians 5:2 says "and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." You have done just that, Kim - lived a life of love that so many of us feel. I think of you often and pray for a strength like yours. God's blessings on you all!
Love,
Amy Roscoe

Dear Kim,
I am thinking of you & Karen and your sweet parents and families so much today. I love hearing about the mile of prayer - how awesome! It sounds like you have such wonderful friends which is no surprise. As the saying goes, you can tell a lot about someone by looking at their friends. I see unshakeable faith and overwhelming love. I pray your world and the moments in it today are beautiful. I pray your children have a blessed day at school today. I pray the Lord will touch you and yours exactly in the way that is needed today. Sending lots of love and hugs,

Kim, you have people praying for you that could not make it to the Mile of Prayers walk for you today. Many of us prayed for you and your family this morning in our private time with God. How I wish I could have been there to see the love walking around in circles! Must have been like a prayer whirlwind!

My love goes to you and yours!

Kim,
You are such an amazing person. I have only met you that one time that you came to consult with me at the radiation clinic, but I could just sense the love you have for people. Thanks to Mrs. Carol Bishop for telling you about me. Some of the comments you said to me I will never forget. You told me not to question God, but to thank Him for giving us another day and asking Him what He wants from us today not tomorrow. I have shared that with many people because I know you were absolutely right. You are such an inspiration to so many people. Thank you for sharing your journey with me. My prayers are with you and your entire family.

"God loves you. He wants you to know He is with you no matter where you go. He will see you through. God loves you." Do you know that song? I enjoy hearing it every time because it radiates such a calming assurance of His everlasting, all-encompassing love. Psalms 121, The Living Bible: "Shall I look to the mountain gods for help? No! My help is from Jehovah who made the mountains! And the heavens too! He will NEVER let (Kim) stumble, slip or fall. For He is ALWAYS wtching, never sleeping. Jehovah himself is caring for (Kim and her family)! He is her defender. He protects her day and night. He keeps (Kim) from all evil, and preserves her life. He keeps his eye upon her as she comes and goes, and ALWAYS guards her." Amen...so be it. I love you, and God loves you. Blanche

Good Morning Kim,

I sure wish I could have been at the prayer walk, but work conflicts interferred. I did get to drive by, and it gave me chills (it did again thinking about it, too!). The track was full of women and kids, walking and praying for you, Mark and the kids. What a physical outpouring of love I witnessed! You are an inspiration, even though you didn't ask to be. Thank you for your vigiliant walk with Christ.
Much love,

Seeing you back-to-school shopping and enjoying it!- made me slow down and realize it's not the big things we accomplish in life that people will remember. Kim,
Living in Florida, I'm out of the loop and did not realize the physical suffering you are enduring. We tried to grab Lehman the last time we came to Jonesboro and now I know why we couldn't get ahold of you. I am sad for you and your family.
I was talking to some of my new coworkers about faith a few nights ago. Interestingly, everyone exchanged stories of a miracle or two in the ER they had witnessed over the years which "proved" to them God is real. I found it shocking that we all (myself included) had to witness something extraordinary as proof to verify God's existence. How foolish we are!
When I realized this phenomenon, I immediately thought of you. While you hope for a miracle, you don't expect it for proof that God lives. You know that His plan is a miracle in itself. Your faith is so strong that I look at you in awe and I had to share your story with my new coworkers.
I smiled when you said in your blog "...God is not going to leave me now." This is because God has made you and your family His example of love and faith so the rest of us will know what we're supposed to do.
Don & I are praying that your lymph nodes shrink with the radiation and that your strength returns soon. We will also pray for Lehman and the rest of your gang.

Love,
Karen Roe

Dear Kim,
Matthew 11:28-30 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." I pray that you are resting physically. But I know that you are resting in the promises of Jesus. Thank you for living out your faith so openly. I believe that your witness has brought countless people to Christ. There is NOTHING more important that that. I still have so much to learn from you. Thank you for showing me true faithfulness. Thank you for showing me love. Thank you for your indescribable grace. Thank you for your excellent example. Thank you for encouraging me when I should have been encouraging you. I love your pure heart and your beautiful face. You are a princess, the daughter of the King.

Dear Kim,
Thank you for living every single day as an offering to the Lord. Who knew you'd grow up to be a missionary in Jonesboro and all over the world wide web?! You are the real thing--one whose walk matches her talk. A light in the darkness. You must be the apple of God's eye! How He must delight in you! Thank you for your unbelievable example of faithfulness through the fire, amazing humility, and the most beautiful grace I think I may have ever seen.

When I think of you and the beautiful life you lead, Proverbs 31:28 comes to mind. "Her children will rise up and call her blessed."
What a legacy your precious children have in their mom!

I praise God for you, Kim. Thank you.

Hey Kim!
I hope your blog space is as helpful and meaningful for you as it is for me and your many friends! Think about how many people are focussed on things of the Lord because of you! Countless people are praying for you and your family, people are maturing in their faith because of your example, families are growing stronger because people are taking the time to appreciate the blessings that they have, groups of women are gathering and praying collectively in your name, and christians have an opportunity to show the lost world Christ-like love and support for a sister in Christ and I can only imagine that people will be saved as a result. Doesn't everyone hope to be of as much use to the Lord as you are? I love you and your precious family very much! Our whole family is covering you all up in prayer every day and we know that God's will...His perfect plan to become closer to you and His other children...will be, although we are not able to understand it now. A dear friend once shared an analogy with me that has helped me in my struggle to grasp what is happening with your life. She said that life is like an exquisite needlepoint...we are on the back side viewing all of the knots, strings, lumps and splotches of color while God is on the front creating a perfect, beautiful picture. Your life is a part of His beautiful picture!

Know that prayers and hugs are stretching to you and your family from North Carolina. I thank you for being such a strong witness for Christ.

Why does God let bad things happen in the world?
This question is probably as old as religion itself. It is a stumbling block for some of us, and for many more at given moments of tragedy. There are as many answers to this question as there are people who care to engage in theological dialogue. One understanding is that yes, God allows "bad" things to happen; God does not cause them to happen.
Most "bad" things which happen do so because God gives a radical freedom to God's people; we are free people, not puppets on a string. But God does not cause "bad" things to happen. God loves us and grieves with us in our pain when "bad things" happen.
Therefore, we might best respond by saying that God does not will "bad" things to happen in life. Rather, "bad" things happen in the freedom that comes with the gift of life. When "bad" things happen to any of God's children, God is grieved and suffers with us, experienced most vividly in the hurt and suffering of Jesus the Christ for all humanity. Any "bad" thing which happens is never the last word. Rather, God is the deepest and last word, and that word is love and eternal life with God.
--The Rev. Dr. Douglass M. Bailey

Dear Kim,
I heard that yesterday was a good day, and am so thankful for that. Yes Lord! Thank you for this.
In thinking about what to say today it hit me that some of the most comforting words I've ever read/heard came from you! You are such an inspiration to me and to so many. I know you didn't ask to be and I'm sure there are many times you wished you weren't in the position to be, but you have been so obedient in this journey. It reminds me of this scripture:
"The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart.....for out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks"
Luke 6:45

Thru everything you've been through you've praised Him, given thanks to Him and trusted Him. There are so many things that you've said that have touched me forever, but in your April blog you were talking about your life and how, right at that time,in the midst of news that you didn't want to hear, everything was perfect. You said "it is peace beyond understanding, and today I choose to rest in it". Kim, I pray that today you are still feeling that way. And I want you to know I'll never forget you saying those words - and I pray that when I am facing something I don't understand or like in my life that I will have as much grace, courage, peace and obedience as you do. Your mouth has spoken what is in your heart.....and it is good and pleasing to Him.
Praying today is another uplifting day and that you feel the love that surrounds you from near and far. Love, Alicia

Kim,

Everytime I visit your blog I am amazed by how many people leave messages about the way you have touched them- God has truly given you an amazing ministry through this! Your story of faith has spread so far, and has brought God so much glory. My prayer is that He will bring you complete physical healing and rid your body of cancer, and that through His healing and your testimony, many people will come to a relationship with Him. But even if His plan is different,I know that it is just that- HIS plan, and that because you are living in His will and allowing Him to work through you, somehow all things will work together for good.

Brandon, myself, and my parents are praying for you and your family constantly. I love you so much, and am so thankful that God brought you into my life- almost ten years ago. Can you believe it's been that long? I sure can't! I have so many wonderful memories and will always think of you all as family.

-Courtney

Kim,

I just want to give you a hug from me and tell you that you are on my mind and in my prayers constantly. I had a good visit with Mark yesterday in the line at school. Please know that you are loved with an everlasting love and underneath you are the everlasting arms. (wish that was original--I got it from Elisabeth Elliot :). I pray that your rest today will be peaceful and your fellowship with your loved ones sweet.

Love,
Stacey

Kim,
Chris Rice's song, Untitled Hymn(Come to Jesus) says "cry to Jesus, and live" "dance for Jesus and live", "Come to Jesus, and live", "fall on Jesus, and live","'fly to Jesus, and live", "sing to Jesus, and live" I know you have experienced all these in your life and in your battle. God bless you, angel, for holding steadfast to your faith and for bringing others closer to Jesus through your journey. Praying for peace and love to flow over your family.

Kim,
I ran into Troy Grooms in Jacksonville today. As Troy spoke about you there was a radiance in his countenance that gave me goose bumps. You are such a beautiful witness of our Loving God. I thank and praise Him for your great faith. I praise Him for the countless number of people (including me) He is touching through the testimony of your life. The Burns family continues to lift you and your family up in our prayers. We love you!

Kim,
It did not take long upon your family's arrival to Beebe for me to realize that there was something special about you all. As a little girl I looked up to you then, and now as a young woman I look up to you more than ever. You truly are a Godsend. Your faith is such a testament to God's endless love. I will continue to hold you and your family in my every prayer. I love you.

Kim & Mark,
I just wanted to say hello and let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts & prayers. I try to keep up with things through the blog & through the Sunday School Class. Always know that you are with me in my heart. I keep reading scriptures that speak to me and whenever I read them, Kim, I think of you and something that you said in C-Team. You get up in the a.m., get your coffee and go to your computer to get your encouraging word of the day. Because of what you said, I try and do that too. I am not nearly as good at it as you, but I hope to be someday! Several lately have really touched me. Psalm 4:8, In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe. Luke 18:27, What is impossible for people is possible with God.

Love in Christ,
Tracy Fisher

Kim, you and your family are in my prayers daily. This verse keeps coming to mind when I pray for you so I thought I'd share it with you.
Isa. 43:1-3
Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are mind. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

Kim,
We have missed you in C-Team, but it was great to see Mark and your dad there today. Your dad offered such an eloquent prayer during our closing circle. We are all still praying for your comfort, peace and healing in Jesus' name -

Kim-
I can hear your laughter just like yesterday. I cherish the memories of our friendship in Pocahontas and can almost feel your smile. I wish I could be there to hold your hand and comfort your family. Know that we are praying hard and hope that you are doing OK today. We wish you a restful night and will keep you in our thoughts.

love, Brigette
