Kim's Prayer

"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." --2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Kim would be 41 tomorrow

We've put our house up for sale, and in the process of going through and cleaning, I found a journal I was not aware Kim was keeping. It had a list of the ten things she'd learned through her battle with cancer and was written shortly before she passed away. It is classic Kim, so I thought I'd share on the anniversary of her birthday.

10. I'm stronger than I thought I was.
9. I have more friends than I thought.
8. Even if you have the time, daytime TV is no good.
7. Not much going on is a good thing.
6. Simple things are the best.
5. Friends and family are better than losing... [can't make the rest out]
4. God has not gone away even when you don't feel Him.
3. God provides for small and large problems.
2. Prayer WORKS!
1. God is God, He can do whatever He wants.

Mark,
Thanks so much for posting! I have been thinking about y'all alot. I have seen the kids a few times this summer and they are getting BIG!

Kim has really been on my mind alot lately and I decided to go to the blog today because I was looking for a scripture that I had forgotten. (loaned my book to a friend: Note to self, Get mine back and order friend her own copy!) Anyway, What a surprise to see your entry. I laughed and cried when I read it. So glad you found that and shared.

I didn't realize you were trying to move, but my Connor has a truck and muscles and would be glad to help. Take care1
Love,

Mark, I read your recent article on Kim, it was a great tribute. I read it on my Mom's birthday (Oct.2-Sara Heflin)I hope you and the kids are doing well. We will all be at the Race for the Cure including Gabby and Ginger on the 11th. You and the kids are in our thoughts and prayers, it's still tough without them.

Just wanted to drop a line and let you know I was thinking of Kim today as I was runnng at Craighead....I was thinking of this awesome weekend I just had with my high school girlfriends and all of the sudden Kim's name came to my mind. Right after that thought, "Bring the Rain" came on my ipod that I run with. I actually was running and crying and singing and thinking...."I need to cherish my weekend with my friends, because I know Kim would have loved to be doing the same thing. I think of her often in step class also.
Hope the family is all doing good. God Bless!

Dear Kim,
I have thought of you so much lately. I miss your smile and your huge hugs! You have inspired so many people, including me, and our lives will never be the same. You would be so proud of your family - they are growing so fast! I have recently met several people who knew you from the hospital, and it did not surprise me that they teared up when they spoke about you, even two years later. I love you and thank you for all the ways you have impacted my life! Just needed to say this today for my benefit, certainly not for yours; you are praising, laughing, and singing with our Lord! Will see you when it's time. Love, A

I don't know if anyone still checks out this blog, but just wanted to say that the book still blesses me. I just started a "pray, walk, eat" club with some of my friends at Craighead on Wed. mornings and this morning I did a devotional from one of Kim's blogs...we were in tears.
I watched Oliver stuff food in his mouth at a track meet last week and I smiled thinking of how Kim would have loved it.
God Bless your family...
Becky Smith
